Lap Band or the Laparsocopic Adjustable Gastric Band is a low risk procedure that helps you lose weight by restricting the amount of food that you can eat.
The lap band surgery has been performed in the United States since the mid-1990s. Â It was also approved by the FDA for patients with a BMI between 30-35.
The procedure was very commonly performed in the early 2000’s but recently that number has declined due to the increase popularity of the Sleeve Gastrectomy
Dr. Angel M. Caban and Dr. George Rossidis are Fellowship Trained bariatric surgeons that perform the gastric band procedure Laparoscopically or Minimally Invasive 99.9% of the time.
Using five small incisions (four 5mm and one 15mm), a high definition camera, a TV screen and special instruments a silicone band/balloon is placed in the upper portion of the stomach to restrict the amount of food that you can eat.
A lap band surgery takes approximately 45 minutes under general anesthesia.
The procedure is usually a same day or ambulatory surgery. Â Patients with sleep apnea are admitted overnight for observation.
The biggest benefit after a Lap Band is moderate weight loss with low initial risk.  With weight loss you can see other improvements in your health.
In average patients will experience a 40-50% Excess Body Weight Loss within 12-24 months.
Resolution, improvement or prevention of comorbidities related to morbid obesity can be seen after moderate weight loss with the Lap Band procedure.
