Sleeve Gastrectomy

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve Gastrectomy or the Gastric Sleeve is a surgery that helps you lose weight by restricting the amount of food that you can eat.

The Sleeve Gastrectomy has been performed in the United States for over 15 years.

It has become the most commonly performed weight loss surgery worldwide. The popularity is attributed to safety, minimal changes to the anatomy and excellent long term weight loss.

Surgical Technique

Dr. Angel M. Caban and Dr. George Rossidis are Fellowship Trained bariatric surgeons that perform the gastric sleeve Laparoscopically or Minimally Invasive 99.9% of the time.

Using five small incisions (four 5mm and one 15mm), a high definition camera, a TV screen, and special instruments the stomach is divided creating a 100-150 ml sleeve.  Approximately 3/4 of the stomach is removed.

A laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy takes approximately 60 minutes under general anesthesia.

Dr. Caban and Dr. Rossidis don’t leave any drains, feeding tubes or nasogastric tubes in place. The surgical incisions are closed with absorbable sutures, so there will be no sutures to cute or staples to remove.

Sleeve Gastrectomy Benefits

Weight loss is the biggest benefit after the Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery but you can see other improvements in your health.

On average patients will experience 60-70% Excess Body Weight Loss within 12-18 months.

Resolution or prevention of other comorbidities related to obesity is, in my opinion, the most important benefit of weight loss surgery.

The resolution of diabetes, sleep apnea, and depression can be seen in excess of 80%.

Improvement of other conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint pain, back pain and urinary incontinence can be seen in the majority of the patients.
